# Choose Signature Mounting Styles for Posts

Choose the right post mount for your deck, balcony, landing, or stair. The mount affects structure, waterproofing, overhangs, and how much hardware you see.

{% hint style="info" %}
This step covers **Signature cable railing**. Express uses a smaller set of pre-configured options, so some choices shown here do not apply to Express.

If you choose Express, go to [Customize Your Express Cable Railing](/guides/planning/how-can-i-customize-my-cable-railing/choose-your-cable-system/customize-your-express-cable-railing.md) to review the standard option set. If you choose Signature, continue through the full customization process.

### How to choose a post mount

* Use Standard Mount on level surfaces when top mounting is simple and clean.
* Use side-mount styles when you want to preserve deck space or avoid penetrating the walking surface.
* Use Core Drill, Angled Foot, or Tread Side Mount for concrete, sloped, or stair-specific conditions.
